In a society based on conformity, Zo has never fit in.  All she wants is her mother’s approval, but because she’s the Sovereign’s daughter, more is expected of her than she could ever fulfill.  However, all that will change on the day of her Initiation, when she’s finally Uploaded into the Sight.  When finally, she’ll become One with them all.

Only, Zo has a secret, and she’s afraid this secret could cause the Sight’s downfall.  And once she’s Uploaded, there will be no way for her to keep that secret any longer.  And so, when Dax, the only other person in the Community with conformity issues, escapes from Initiation, Zo finds herself following him, smashing the cameras that pursue them both.

Dax and Zo flee the Community.  Their destination, Zo does not know.  All she knows is that the desert heat might kill her before she can make things right, and if the heat doesn’t get her, Dax’s driving skills on his motorcycle will.

Over the next few sweltering days, Zo discovers that Dax has a secret too.  Only while Zo is concerned with preserving the Sight at all costs, Dax’s mission is to take it down.
